Extra Curricular
Here in Ballincollig Community School, we value the role that sport plays in the personal development of our students. We are extremely privileged to be in a position to offer a wide range of sporting activities and are very proud of the level of participation and success in various ages categories.
We place equal value in extra-curricular activities which take place outside of the pitches, courts and sporting arenas. We take great pride in have such a passionate teaching staff who are eager to share their expertise in various fields such as Science, Debating and Chess.

Girls Basketball
Each year we are delighted with the uptake and dedication of our girls to the four different age category teams - Junior (1st year), Minor (2nd year), Under 16 and Under 18. We have had many successes in Girls Basketball in recent years with BCS, including winning the u18 South Regional Final and securing a position in the All-Ireland play-offs on more than one occasion. Our girl’s commitment to training not only ensures enhancement of basketball skills and imparts a love of sport, it also builds their confidence, fosters resilience and instils a positive work ethic, life skills which will be utilised both on and off the courts throughout life.

Boys Basketball
Boys Basketball is also competed at 4 different age categories - 1st year, 2nd year, U16 and U19, in the Cork Schoolboys Basketball league.

Ladies Football
Our girls compete in a 1st year, Junior and intermediate teams. Our Junior and intermediate team have competed in the Cork Colleges competition as well as Munster Colleges competitions. While our 1st Year team takes part in various Blitzes organised in Cork and Munster.

Football
Teams at U14, U15, U16 and U18½ age groups are entered in the Cork and Munster Post-Primary Schools Football Competitions. Here in Ballincollig Community School we are extremely fortunate to have such a strong tradition of Gaelic football in surrounding clubs, a tradition which is fostered, encouraged and developed within the school.

Hurling
Ballincollig Community School have a strong tradition of Hurling and maintain close links with local Hurling Clubs. Students participate in Cork and Munster Post-Primary Schools Competitions with Hurling Teams at U14, U15, U16 and U18½ age groups represented by the school. Recent successes include BCS Senior Hurlers winning the Cork Colleges Cup in 2020.

Camogie
We have a strong tradition of Camogie in the school. We are lucky to have players come from local clubs such as Ballincollig, Eire Og, Inniscarra, Ballinhassig and Ballinora. We also get many new players and feed them into the local clubs. We have had great success in the School in recent years, winning the 1st year Cork Colleges blitz day which is a great introduction to Secondary Camogie for our new students. Our girls were also victorious in the U16.5 ‘A’ grade for both Cork colleges and Munster championship in the same year. Unfortunately, we lost out narrowly in the Intermediate Munster final. It is the dedication and enthusiasm of all our players to training after school that makes our Camogie teams so fantastic.

Athletics
Students involved with local Athletics clubs, along with those who have an interest in track and field competitions, compete in the Munster schools track and field competitions. Students also participate, compete and represent the school in cross country competitions.

Ultimate Frisbee
BCS has a long tradition of Ultimate Frisbee with many of our past pupils returning to our school to coach a new generation of Ultimate Frisbee players. Students participate in Local and National Competitions.

Soccer
BCS Male and Female Students have long been affiliated with Soccer success, with many of our students playing for Local & National teams. A number of our past pupils have secured Soccer Scholarships in Irish and American Universities. Our Junior and Senior Girls teams represent the school in the Cork Schoolgirls league and Cup and the Munster Schoolgirls Soccer Cup. While our Boys are entered into U14, U16 & Senior Cork Schoolboys Cup and Munster Schoolboys Cup Competitions each year.

Table Tennis
BCS students are highly competitive in Table Tennis with Mr. Nolan entering students in competitions of varying age groups. The U19 Girls Table Tennis team have been extremely successful in recent years winning the All Ireland Cup for two years consecutively in 2018 & 2019.

Rugby
Junior students under the guidance of Mr. Kelly and Ms. Buckley compete in the Munster Schools Rugby League and Cup Competition. While the 1st & 2nd Year development team take part in Blitz days throughout the year.

Debating Club
The Ballincollig Community School Debating Club has grown significantly since its inception in 2016. The Debating Club welcomes students from all year groups. Students meet weekly to debate contemporary social, political and justice issues. Since 2016, students have competed in the MACE Munster and national debating competitions and the Cambridge Schools Debating Competition. Students have also participated in the 19th Model United Nations run by UCC’s International Relations Society, competed in Feis Maitiu and have had friendly debates with other local Cork schools. The club meets after school on Tuesdays and all students are welcome.

Young Social Innovators
Students throughout the school are involved in the Young Social Innovators Programme. The programme gives our student the opportunity to explore complex issues and to develop, test and adapt ideas to achieve positive social change. The Programme enables our students to reach out to the wider community, raise awareness and raise vital funds for causes and issues which they feel passionately about.

BT Young Scientist
Many of our pupils participate in the BT Young Scientist. Participation in the competition fosters within students a passion for science and affords students the opportunity to get creative and innovative with Science.

Chess
Students meet once a week to play friendly and competitive games of chess. Students also avail of the opportunity to participate in the Cork Novices League.

Eurofoot International Soccer Competition
For the last thirty years our 4th and 5th year boys have participated in this International Soccer Tournament in France. Check our our ‘Galleries’ section for more information.
